The Babolat Air Viper 2025 is the fastest Viper: 355g (10g lighter than the Technical), 265mm balance (5mm lower), maneuverability 10/10. The name fits, this is the lightweight power diamond. Power scores 9/10. The trade-off versus the Technical Viper: slightly less overhead explosiveness, but significantly more speed and manoeuvrability.

The Air Viper 2025 weighs 355g, 10g lighter than the Technical Viper (365g), with a diamond shape and a balance of 265mm head-heavy (vs 270mm for the Technical). That lower centre of gravity makes the racket faster in the hand. The profile is 38mm. The face is 16K carbon; the core is X-EVA (3 layers: two stiffer outer layers with a softer inner layer).

The Viper range in 2025, three rackets, three profiles:

ModelShapeWeightBalanceCarbonCharacter
Technical Viper 2.5Diamond365g270mm12KMaximum power, least manoeuvrability
Air Viper 2.5Diamond355g265mm16KMaximum manoeuvrability, light power profile
Counter Viper 2.5Round365gMedium3KControl and defence

The "Air" in the name is deliberate positioning: lighter, faster, more manoeuvrable. Where the Technical Viper delivers maximum attacking power, the Air Viper offers the same power in a racket that is easier to handle.

Technologies:

  • 16K Carbon face, stiffer than the 12K of the Technical Viper; in a lighter racket
  • X-EVA core, 3-layer construction for power transmission with some shock absorption
  • Vibrasorb System², vibration dampers integrated into the carbon fibres
  • 3D Spin+, ribbed rough surface for spin potential

Power is rated 9/10. The diamond shape concentrates impact force in the upper part of the racket; the 16K carbon gives direct energy transfer on overhead balls.

Manoeuvrability is rated 10/10, the maximum score. This is the Air Viper's defining advantage over the Technical Viper (maneuverability 7/10). The racket brings dynamism and speed of execution to link shots together.

The combination of power 9 and manoeuvrability 9 is rare in a diamond racket. The general rule is: more power = more weight = less manoeuvrability. The Air Viper partly resolves this through its lower weight (355g) and lower balance (265mm vs 270mm). The compromise is tolerance: sweetspot and forgiveness are both rated 7/10, less forgiving than a teardrop or round shape.

Comfort is rated 7/10. The 16K carbon is stiffer than 12K; the X-EVA core compensates somewhat. Players who are sensitive to hard contact are better served by a softer construction.

Defence scores 6/10, the offensive diamond profile is limiting here. The Air Viper rewards attackers; defensive players have a better choice.

The Air Viper is lighter (355g vs 365g), has lower balance (265mm vs 270mm) and is more manoeuvrable (9/10 vs 7/10). The Technical Viper has more attacking power (10/10 vs 9/10). Choose Air for speed, Technical for maximum overhead performance.

Availability is currently limited. The Air Viper 3.0 (2026) is the successor. Check current availability.

For experienced attackers who want power but prefer a lighter, faster racket over the heavier Technical Viper. Suitable for players who spend plenty of time at the net and want quick exchanges.

Advantages & considerations

Advantages

Manoeuvrability 9/10, the lightest Viper (355g), fastest reaction at the net

Power 9/10, 16K carbon and X-EVA deliver impact despite the light weight

Overhead 9/10, a head-heavy diamond delivers strong overhead performance

Spin 9/10, the rough 3D Spin+ surface works well for víboras

Considerations

Sweetspot 7/10, a diamond provides less playing area than a teardrop

Defence 6/10, a purely attacking design

Sold out at the reference date, limited availability

What will you notice on court?

What you will notice as a player

The smash gets plenty of easy power; you do not need a full follow-through to put the ball away.

A balanced racket that responds predictably in most situations.

The racket offers little help in defense; returning balls off the glass takes considerable effort.

No pronounced weakness, but no single shot where the racket particularly stands out either.

Which shots are affected most?

SituationWhat will you notice?
DefenseLittle help: you must guide balls off the glass and keep them deep yourself.
VolleyComfortable and stable; aiming is easy and you keep the ball low.
BandejaVery easy to control: the ball stays low and predictable, ideal for controlling the court.
ViboraVery explosive: plenty of speed and bite, a natural shot for this racket.
SmashIts strongest point: maximum power with little effort, sending the ball away like a rocket.
BlockStable: the racket is ready in time and returns the ball with control.
Off-center ballReasonably forgiving: outside the sweet spot you lose some speed, while accuracy is largely maintained.
