The Babolat Counter Viper 2.6 2026 completes the Viper trio on the defensive side: where the Technical Viper offers maximum attacking power (power 10) and the Air Viper combines speed with power (power 9), the Counter Viper focuses on defense 10/10 and control 9/10 through 3K carbon and a round shape. The 355–370g weight range and low balance are characteristic of defence-focused round rackets in this segment. Sweetspot 9/10, manoeuvrability 9/10, forgiveness 9/10. A consistent package for the right-side specialist who wants Babolat quality with a control-first DNA. Power is 7/10, lower than the Air and Technical Viper, but higher than most pure round control rackets in the segment. The Counter Viper 2.6 is therefore more versatile than a purely defensive profile would suggest. Compare it with the Babolat Counter Veron 2.6 if you want more comfort (comfort 9 vs 8), or the Counter Viper 2025 if you are considering the previous generation.

The Babolat Counter Viper 2.6 2026 weighs 355–370g, with a round shape and low balance (258mm). Profile 38mm. Face: Carbon. Core: X-EVA. Frame: Carbon. Price: ~€229.

"Counter" refers to the counterattacking concept: a defensive player who can still win points from a defensive position. The round mould provides maximum consistency in defence; the low balance (258mm) enables a quick switch to a counterattack.

"2.6" in the name is Babolat's generation designation. The Counter Viper 2025 was version 2.5; the 2026 update is called 2.6.

Technologies:

  • X-EVA, Babolat's multi-density EVA for a balance of power and comfort
  • Round Mold, maximum sweetspot for defensive consistency
  • Low Balance System, low balance for quick hand positioning
  • Vibrabsorb, vibration absorption in the frame

Defence 10 is the primary score: the Counter Viper 2.6 is built for players who need to defend consistently. Round mould + low balance + X-EVA is the optimal combination for defensive precision.

The "counter" aspect: a round mould with low balance can also initiate counterattacks reasonably well. The racket has enough stiffness (carbon face) for powerful rebounds from a defensive position without playing exclusively defensively.

X-EVA is Babolat's balanced EVA choice. Comfort is 8/10: not as soft as Carbon Flex (Counter Veron), but more comfortable than the stiffer Viper Technical variants. For sustained defensive play, this is an acceptable level.

Manoeuvrability is 9/10 thanks to the combination of low balance and a round mould. Switching quickly on lobs and defensive balls is straightforward.

Power is 7/10. Enough for counterattacks from a good defensive position. Not for attackers who want to smash from the baseline.

The difference from the Counter Viper 2025: the "2.6" update brings an improved X-EVA composition, softer at the edges for more comfort on off-centre contact and harder in the centre for better energy transfer in counterattacks.

The Counter Viper 2.6 has a round mould for maximum control and defence (defence score 10). If you play an attacking game, the Air Viper 2025 or Viper Juan LeBron 3.0 2026 are better choices: these models offer more power from a teardrop or hybrid mould. The Counter Viper is for players who build their game around control and put consistent returns above everything else.

Yes. The model is intended for defensive players with some to extensive experience. With a defence score of 10 and control of 9, it is the most defensively oriented option in the Babolat line. Experienced players who put control above power (or are recovering from padel-related arm problems) will find it suitable.

What will you notice on court?

What you will notice as a player

At the net you react very quickly: blocks and fast volleys feel almost effortless.

You place the ball very precisely; controlling rallies, playing cross-court and finding the corners feels predictable.

The racket helps in defense: a calm swing sends balls off the glass deep again.

The sweet spot offers forgiveness: slightly imperfect contact loses little accuracy.

The smash gets no easy power; depth and speed must come from your own follow-through.

No pronounced weakness, but no single shot where the racket particularly stands out either.

Which shots are affected most?

SituationWhat will you notice?
DefensePlenty of help: the low balance and generous sweet spot return balls off the glass calmly and deep.
VolleyCrisp and agile: aiming feels effortless and late adjustments remain possible.
BandejaVery easy to control: the ball stays low and predictable, ideal for controlling the court.
ViboraEnough bite for a quick brushing shot with some acceleration of your own.
SmashSolid rather than explosive: depth and speed need your own follow-through.
BlockA strong point: the racket is ready very quickly and returns the ball with control.
Off-center ballForgiving: just outside the sweet spot you lose little and the ball stays on course.
