The Babolat Counter Viper 2025 is the third part of the Viper trio: where the Technical Viper (12K diamond) delivers maximum power and the Air Viper (16K diamond) combines speed with power, the Counter Viper brings control 10/10 through 3K carbon and a round shape. Coki Nieto's signature racket, for the right-side specialist who wins points through placement rather than smashes.
The Counter Viper 2.5 2025 weighs 365g and has a round shape with a 270mm balance. Profile 38mm. The face is 3K carbon (softer than 12K or 16K); the core is X-EVA (3 layers: two stiffer outer layers for powerful balls and a soft inner layer for comfortable shots). Frame: carbon with Smart Buttcap.
The Viper trio 2025:
| Model | Shape | Carbon | Weight | Balance | Core profile |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Technical Viper 2.5 | Diamond | 12K | 365g | 270mm | Maximum power |
| Air Viper 2.5 | Diamond | 16K | 355g | 265mm | Power + speed |
| Counter Viper 2.5 | Round | 3K | 365g | 270mm | Control + defence |
All three use an X-EVA core and 3D Spin+ surface. The difference lies in shape and carbon type. 3K carbon is inherently softer than 12K or 16K, with a larger fibre structure that deforms more on impact. This gives more tolerance and control, with less direct power transmission.
Notably: a 270mm balance on a round shape is high: most round control rackets have lower or balanced balance.
Technologies:
- 3K Carbon, softer carbon type for control and tolerance
- X-EVA, 3-layer core for power + comfort in one construction
- 3D Spin+, rough surface for spin
- Vibrasorb System 2, vibration reduction in carbon fibres
- Smart Buttcap, shock absorption at the handle
- Holes Pattern System, hole pattern optimised for the round shape
Control 10/10 is the dominant score, the maximum score for this racket. The combination of 3K carbon, round shape and X-EVA core gives the most controllable construction in the Viper line. "specifically designed for stability and control during counterattacks, or when play speeds up."
Defence is 10/10: the combination of control 10 and manoeuvrability 9 makes the Counter Viper one of the most defensive rackets in its segment. The round shape has a more central sweetspot; on fast balls into the corners, this gives more return control than a diamond racket.
Manoeuvrability is 9/10, surprisingly high for 365g. The 3K carbon inherently feels lighter than stiffer carbon, contributing to quicker reactions. Qualification: "quick reactions on counterattacks."
Power is 8/10. The stiffer X-EVA outer layers partly compensate for the softer 3K carbon face. On powerful balls (hard hitting, overheads), the outer layers provide more power transmission than a soft single-layer core. It is not a power racket, but 8/10 is good for a round control model.
Spin is 9/10: 3D Spin+ is the same system as on the Technical and Air Viper. The rough surface gives balls considerable rotation.
The Counter Viper is a round control racket (3K carbon, control 10/10, defence 10/10). The Air Viper is a diamond power racket (16K carbon, power 9/10, manoeuvrability 9/10). They share the Viper line but have opposite characters. Choose Counter Viper for control and defence; Air Viper for power and speed.
The Counter Viper is designed for right-side players who build points through control, placement and counterattacks. Control 10/10 and defence 10/10 are the key characteristics for that position.
Advantages
Control 10/10, maximum score
Defence 10/10, control + manoeuvrability 9/10 for counterattacks
Tolerance 8/10, 3K carbon is forgiving on off-centre contact
Spin 9/10, 3D Spin+ surface
Considerations
Round shape is not optimised for overhead winners

What you will notice as a player
At the net you react very quickly: blocks and fast volleys feel almost effortless.
You place the ball very precisely; controlling rallies, playing cross-court and finding the corners feels predictable.
The racket helps in defense: a calm swing sends balls off the glass deep again.
The sweet spot offers forgiveness: slightly imperfect contact loses little accuracy.
No pronounced weakness, but no single shot where the racket particularly stands out either.
Which shots are affected most?
| Situation | What will you notice? |
|---|---|
| Defense | Plenty of help: the low balance and generous sweet spot return balls off the glass calmly and deep. |
| Volley | Crisp and agile: aiming feels effortless and late adjustments remain possible. |
| Bandeja | Very easy to control: the ball stays low and predictable, ideal for controlling the court. |
| Vibora | It works, but speed and bite must mostly come from your own technique. |
| Smash | Enough power, but you still need to put considerable effort into the swing. |
| Block | A strong point: the racket is ready very quickly and returns the ball with control. |
| Off-center ball | Forgiving: just outside the sweet spot you lose little and the ball stays on course. |
