Explosive • Control focused • Stable
The Babolat Viper Technical APT 2023 positions itself as the most powerful model in the Viper series. Its diamond shape, high balance and 12K carbon face target players who want attacking play and considerable smash power. First impressions suggest a demanding racket requiring experience, although the multilayer X-EVA core suggests Babolat also wanted to include comfort and a margin for error.
The Babolat Viper Technical APT 2023 has a diamond shape with high balance and weighs 365 grams. The frame profile is 38 mm thick. The face is 12K carbon fibre and the frame carbonfiber. The core consists of X-EVA with multiple densities. This layered construction is intended to combine power on hard shots with comfort on controlled balls. The racket costs around 310 euros and targeted offensive, aggressive players at launch. High balance and diamond shape are intended to place the sweetspot high in the face, where most speed is generated. Babolat also applies a textured surface intended to improve grip and spin, and an updated damping system (VibraSorb System2) intended to further reduce vibrations.
What you will notice as a player
The smash gets plenty of easy power; you do not need a full follow-through to put the ball away.
A balanced racket that responds predictably in most situations.
At the net you react a little more slowly: the weight sits forward, so quick adjustments take more effort.
No pronounced weakness, but no single shot where the racket particularly stands out either.
Which shots are affected most?
| Situation | What will you notice? |
|---|---|
| Defense | Reasonable: a calm swing returns most balls off the glass. |
| Volley | Requires technique: clean contact is essential and late adjustments are difficult. |
| Bandeja | Easy to control: the ball stays reasonably low and predictable. |
| Vibora | Very explosive: plenty of speed and bite, a natural shot for this racket. |
| Smash | Its strongest point: maximum power with little effort, sending the ball away like a rocket. |
| Block | The forward weight makes quick blocks more demanding than with an agile racket. |
| Off-center ball | Unforgiving: outside the sweet spot, both speed and accuracy drop noticeably. |
